We are looking for a creative and ambitious professional for an Applications Engineer position in the greater Detroit, MI area - with a strong technical proficiency and pre-sales experience in the automation & robotics industry, specifically oriented to Welding technologies, to help us developing the cobot market application’s knowledge globally.

 

Role & Responsibilities.

In this position you will be contributing to the technical and application engineering activities of the Global Center of Excellence for Welding. You will be involved with the design and development groups to determine effective applications equipment (hardware & software) and help us grow this important business for Universal Robots. The Industry Segment Applications Engineer will act as a subject-matter expert with focus on improving our welding customers’ ability to successfully deploy UR Robots in welding application.

Primary responsibilities include:

 

  • Work in close collaboration with the Industry Segment Manager for welding, to achieve the business goals set by him/her
     
  • Perform various engineering duties, exercising judgment and application of standard engineering principles and practices
     
  • Pursue initiatives to improve the effectiveness of the group and increase customer satisfaction
     
  • Maintain our showroom, implementing new solutions and perform customer demonstrations
     
  • Validate new and upcoming software releases, providing feedback to various R&D teams
     
  • Monitor and support technical development by our customers and partners in our UR+ Ecosystem
     
  • Provide input to the Product Management team for future development efforts
     
  • Stay abreast of Universal Robots competitors and relevant industry technology

 

  • Acting as a liaison for Universal Robots with key players in the industry, working towards common goals and supporting One UR

 

  • Provide technical input for marketing and promotion of UR products and related UR+ offerings for welding

 


 

 

Basic Qualifications & Education

 

  • Minimum five years’ experience in the robotics and automation industry, or equivalent relevant experience
     
  • Hands-on experience installing and integrating welding fixtures
     
  • Experience from installation, commissioning, debugging and a thorough understanding of the complete lifecycle of Welding Robotics Systems is highly desirable
     
  • Robotic arc welding experience is preferred, CRAW certification is a plus
     
  • Knowledge in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Visual Components or other design and offline programming software.

 

  • Advanced programming skills in robotics languages, knowledge of UR Script is a plus.
     
  • Experience programming in Java, C++ or Python is a plus

 

  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with customers’ key stakeholders.

 

  • Experience with technical training and customer visits.

 

  • Effective communication skills, ability to transfer knowledge and a good understanding of cross-cultural differences.

 

  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects/ tasks simultaneously and effectively prioritize projects and tasks.

 

  • Ability to analyze problems and proactively provide solutions.

 

  • Self-starter who is resourceful and initiates work without specific instruction.

 

  • English language proficiency, both oral and in-written is required. Other language skills are a plus.

 

  • +25% travel and availability to work outside of office working hours, to effectively collaborate with the global Universal Robots teams in Europe and Asia.

 

Education

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science or related field, OR Associates' Degree and minimum 7 years' experience
